William “Bill” Swaney works with residents of the Fort Berthold Reservation on injury prevention and education on disease vectors. He also conducts training each year on how to safely handle food. Swaney has had multiple careers, all science or education-related. He is an enrolled member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes. He is the first tribal member to earn a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Wildlife Biology, completing his B.S. degree requirements in 1990 and his M.S. in 1993. Bill is passionate about teaching and incorporates culturally relevant material for Native youth and other age groups.
