Melinda Incognito, MSN, BSN, RN, Quality Care Director, an enrolled member of the Three Affiliated Tribes, grew up on and off the reservation, residing in Twin Buttes with strong family roots in White Shield, North Dakota. After Incognito attended Nueta Hidatsa Sahnish College and graduated with a liberal arts degree, she decided to pursue a four-year degree in healthcare, graduating from the University of North Dakota with a scholarship from the Recruitment and Retention of American Indians into Nursing (RAIN) program. Afterwards, Incognito completed her payback obligation for the Indian Health Service in Nebraska. Incognito worked in various healthcare facilities in the private sector. She returned to NHS College as a Nursing Instructor for the Dakota Nursing Program to give back and help other nursing students achieve their dreams while completing her Master's Degree in Nursing. She taught at the college for three years and another three years at the University of North Dakota RAIN program, mentoring RN-BSN, LPN to RN, and MSN students before returning to EMHC in 2015.
In her 30 years as a registered nurse, Incognito has advocated for healthy living and disease prevention. She has seen that people have better outcomes later in life the earlier they can spot and appropriately treat illnesses. Outside of work, she spends the majority of her time with her family.
